Le contenu illustratif n’est prévu que pour les cas dans lesquels les illustrations représentent un complément du contenu primaire (généralement un texte). Si l’expression se compose majoritairement d’images dont l’importance est au moins équivalente à celle du texte (p. ex. ouvrage illustré, imagier, bande dessinée), n’enregistrez pas de contenu illustratif pour indiquer les illustrations qui constituent l’ouvrage illustré ou autre. Attribuez plutôt un terme approprié pour la <a class="ref" href="P409">nature du contenu</a> (p. ex. «ouvrage illustré» ou «bande dessinée») et enregistrez «image fixe» comme <a class="ref" href="P531">type de contenu</a>. Si, en plus des illustrations qui constituent l’ouvrage illustré ou autre, l’expression comporte également des illustrations à caractère complémentaire (p. ex. cartes ou extraits de partition), ces illustrations peuvent être indiquées comme contenu illustratif.

Illustrierender Inhalt ist nur für solche Fälle vorgesehen, in denen die Illustrationen eine Ergänzung des primären Inhalts (typischerweise Text) darstellen. Besteht die Expression zu einem wesentlichen Teil aus Bildern, die von mindestens ebenso hoher Bedeutung sind wie der Text (z. B. Bildband, Bilderbuch, Comic), so erfassen Sie keinen illustrierenden Inhalt, um die Abbildungen anzugeben, die den Bildband o. Ä. ausmachen. Vergeben Sie stattdessen einen geeigneten Begriff für die <a class="ref" href="P409">Art des Inhalts</a>, z. B. „Bildband" oder „Comic", und erfassen Sie „unbewegtes Bild" als <a class="ref" href="P531">Inhaltstyp</a>. Sind jedoch in der Expression – zusätzlich zu den Abbildungen, die den Bildband o. Ä. ausmachen – noch Illustrationen ergänzenden Charakters enthalten (z. B. Karten oder Notenbeispiele), so können diese als illustrierender Inhalt angegeben werden.
